The Story Behind Chocolate Kisses

Peter Remy's "Chocolate Kisses" is a jazz big band composition with jazz pop influences. The song explores the journey of understanding that true love transcends material gifts.

The narrative follows a protagonist who initially believes that tangible gifts like chocolate kisses and candy canes will win someone's heart. As the story unfolds, he comes to realize that authentic connection and genuine love are what truly matter.

Through this song, "Chocolate Kisses" reminds us that while material gifts can be sweet, they are not the end all be all of love. You can't buy true love not even on the dark web. So giving gifts and candy is sweet but they pale in comparison to the sweetness of real love and emotional connection.

"Love is sweeter than any chocolate could ever be"

"You can buy those fancy things, but they won't mean much, much less than a kiss"

- Peter Remy, Chocolate Kisses

Verse 1

Love goes my way

Every time that I walk

Oh darling don't you know?

There's nothing in this life too grand

In spite of anything

I bought you chocolate kisses, a candy cane and more The narrator is trying to win someone's heart with material gifts, symbolizing superficial expressions of affection.
She said "Boy you know that those candies won't do" The person he's pursuing recognizes that material gifts aren't enough for a meaningful relationship.

Chorus

No what you need dear is lips sweeter than these
That'll melt you right out like sweets Real kisses and genuine affection are sweeter and more meaningful than chocolate or candy.

For someone like you and I

She said dear candies won't do

Verse 2

But I bought you caramel fondue and a marshmallow treat The narrator is still trying with material gifts, showing he hasn't yet understood the lesson.
She said "Boy can't you see that I need true love" She explicitly states her need for authentic emotional connection rather than gifts.

[Instrumental]

Chorus

No what you need dear is lips sweeter than these

That'll melt you right out like sweets

For someone like you and I

She says dear candies won't do

Verse 3

But I bought you chocolate kisses

A candy cane and more

She said "Boy can't you see that I need me true love"

Outro

So as the season's changes, my love only grew
And somehow now I get it The narrator finally understands the message about genuine love as time passes.
As she needs real love, the kind that's only sweet
With every changes made, we'll all be free He recognizes that true love is the sweetest gift, and it brings freedom and fulfillment.

Oh darling you and me

Oh my lady darling you and me

And you can buy those fancy things, but they won't mean much
Much less than a kiss The final wisdom: material gifts pale in comparison to genuine affection and connection.

Though we might fight and we might shout

We'll find our way with love

About Peter Remy

I grew up in Canada and at an early age was introduced to church music and started discovering a passion for music. I started playing drums (my first instrument) and began learning from great church musicians.

As a result of learning an instrument, I started to appreciate music with a deeper understanding. I then started producing on Garageband and began learning music production in 2014-2015.

Singing was always special to me, especially after hearing some of the greatest voices like Al Jarreau, Nat King Cole, George Benson and much more. A switch happened in my brain, and I started to take music seriously.

"True romance isn't found in gifts, but in the genuine connection we share with one another. That's the sweetest thing of all."
